Implementing an idea is the easy part. Having an idea takes practice, perseverance and the ability to accept that your initial idea wasn’t so good.

Designers don’t just turn on the computer and whip something up. Designers look and listen, study and pick apart. Designers pay attention to what other people have done and whether or not implemented ideas were successful.

A single pixel matters. A chosen color must be exactly right. The subconscious mind sees every flaw whether you noticed it or not.

This project included storyboarding, illustration and animation of an office scene for a corporate training seminar.

These After Effects animations and mockup graphics were created during an intensive week at the Producers Institute for New Media Technologies 2010 for a prototype of an augmented reality app. Graphics and animations were created with the help of Paige Saez and Abigail Rudner.

Laura F. Hilliger is a multimedia designer, technical liaison and the cofounder of Big Fun Arts, an online, educational portal with video based lessons featuring the arts. In addition to her collaborative work she has a successful freelance business, under the name Red Star Grafik. Although Laura does commercial projects, educational and social justice projects are more satisfying to her as an artist and a human being.

Laura has developed curriculum for Adobe and the University of California, Berkeley. She has taught design and development classes at the Bay Area Video Coalition and Sonic Training. She develops multimedia art projects that satisfy her creative side and make a difference. Laura now lives in Dresden, Germany and uses communication technologies to continue her work with Big Fun Arts and clients around the world.

This interactive Flash interface was designed and created at the Producers Institute for New Media Technologies 2010 for Just Vision, a nonprofit organization supporting Israeli and Palestinian nonviolent peacebuilders.
